Library

The library at WSB-NLU, considering the existing possibilities in Poland, has a unique access to the extensive scientific world of literature, thanks to the possibility of using the collections of National-Louis University online as well as a vast electronic library.


Traditional library.

This is an extensive collection of more than 63 thousand books, including 8 thousand of foreign language textbooks and 54 thousand other publications (scripts, manuals, leaflets, scientific works, newspaper year's issues).  The library subscribes permanently to more than 2,600 newspapers (on CD-ROM, DVD, on-line) and 110 printed titles. There are vast audiovisual collections in the library (about 1,600 cassettes), among other things a series of video cassettes with lectures in marketing by the American lecturers from the General Motors Institute.


Electronic library.

It consists of a computer unit, CD-ROM optical readers and peripheral devices enabling a very fast search and printing of  required materials.  The collections in the computer reading room are comprised of optical disks - CD-ROMs and DVDs.  There is information on 3,200 CD-ROMs which in a traditional form would make up more than 150 thousand volumes.  Information databases on CD-ROMs  consist of the following among other things:

- ABI/INFORM - a bibliographic-abstract database listing more than 4,000 newspaper titles;

- Business Periodicals Ondisc (BPO) - a database giving an easy access to the abstracts and  complete texts in about 500 most popular American newspaper titles in business and management;

- General Periodicals Ondisc (GPO) - a multi-theme database with the abstracts and full texts from about 560 newspapers in various fields;

- Legal Information System LEX - a database updated once a month.

 

The library assures its users an on-line access to the following databases:

- PROQUEST - it contains full texts of the articles from about 2,600 English language newspapers in social science, business, general affairs;

-ISI Emerging Market - a factographic database giving an access to full press and agency texts as well as public and non-public partnership financial reports, branch reports, information concerning companies, stock exchange quotations, statistics and macroeconomic data, all received directly from the leading national and international sources;

- Economy - it is an up-to-date annotated bibliography of economic issues with mostly theoretical aspects of the economical and social changes;

- Lex on-line - present legal regulations

- Gazeta Wyborcza Archives

- Rzeczpospolita Archives

- OECD Sources - it is an on-line library offering an access to all electronic OEC publications (books, reports, yearly issues, working documents, periodicals and databases created with the OECD framework).  Its contents cover various fields such as agriculture, education, atomic energy, ecology, information technology, taxes, social issues, migration and health;

- Safari Business Books Online - consisting of about 1,000 books concerning business practical aspects (starting with communication and problem solving up to leader abilities, customer service or personnel evaluation);

- Safari Tech Books Online - it is a database of about 4,000 latest information technology books.

 

NLU on-line databases

In cooperation with National-Louis University, the library offers a full on-line access to the following databases:

- EBSCO - it gives an access to about 1,600 newspapers.  The access is mostly assured to full articles concerning business,  banking, finances, economy, management, marketing, planning and strategies, as well as human resources and health;

-ERIC FirstSearch Illinois - it is a hugh database utilizing the resources of other databases such as WorldCat (books and library materials), Medline (all medicine fields), AGRICOLA (materials about agriculture), Wilson SelectPlus (full articles concerning humanities and business), PerAbs (general issues or radio-television texts) and many others.  A few of them are full-text databases;

- Illinois Digital Library Databases (IDAL) - a database utilizing the EBSCO Host resources, among other things Academic Search Elite databases, Business Source Premier, Newspaper Source, Health Source Plus and Harpers Weeklly.  It contains full articles in various fields;

- ILLINET Online Book Catalog via Web - a database allowing a search, book locations, audiovisual collections and electronic NLU library collection as well as other ILCSO  libraries.


Additional information

The library has its own virtual information service at the address http://biblioteka.wsb-nlu.edu.pl/ where it is possible to find the basic information about the library, direct links to electronic collections. Through a virtual service, it is possible to enter the OPAC (electronic library catalog) service which is part of the complex library management system - PROLIB. The library fulfills orders from both institutions and private individuals.
