32 Inauguration of the Academic Year 2023/2024 and Graduation of Graduates
On 21 October 2023, the ceremonial 32nd inauguration of the 2023/2024 academic year and graduation of Graduates at the Wyższa Szkoła Biznesu - National Louis University (WSB-NLU) in Nowy Sącz took place. The event took place at 27 Zielona Street in Nowy Sącz and brought together a large number of students, alumni, university staff and supporters. It is worth noting that in the upcoming academic year 2023/24, the number of new students and students at WSB-NLU will increase by 5300.The entire student community of the Business School, including both current students and postgraduate students as well as new admissions, now numbers more than 11,000.
The inaugural lecture, which was entitled 'In search of a meaningful response to reality,' was delivered by Professor Bogdan de Barbaro, MD, PhD, an eminent psychiatrist and therapist, as well as a long-standing researcher at the Department of Psychiatry of the Jagiellonian University's Collegium Medicum. His inspiring words were an excellent start to a new stage of education at the university.
In his lecture, Professor Bogdan de Barbaro addressed important issues of the contemporary world, such as the climate catastrophe, post-truth, or the loss of group empathy and the rise of group narcissism. He encouraged us to examine the aetiology of problems, analyse the context and create responses to social and moral challenges. He shared
also inspiring quotes from philosophers as a source of his own motivation.
The ceremony was full of ceremony and symbolic moments. The university's rector, Dr Dariusz Wozniak,Prof.WSB-NLU, emphasised the importance of the values that are the pillars of the WSB-NLU community: love and respect for freedom and perseverance in achieving goals. These two values were paramount for the university, symbolised by the replica of the Liberty Bell standing in front of its building, and reflecting the character of the Sącz region.
During the ceremony, awards were presented to deserving university staff and distinguished students. It was a moment of recognition for their contribution and commitment.
Distinguished academics, parliamentarians, local government delegations and representatives of the uniformed services were also guests at the ceremony.
The entire ceremony ended with a celebratory toast, during which all present raised their glasses in memory of this special day and to the future successes of the WSB-NLU academic community.
