Meeting of the Polish-Slovak Working Group on Economic Cooperation: Strengthening Cooperation between Poland and Slovakia

A meeting of the Polish-Slovak Working Group on Economic Cooperation was held on 16th and 17th May 2023, focusing on the further development of economic relations between Poland and Slovakia. The meeting was attended by representatives of various institutions and organisations from both countries.

During the discussion, a number of important topics concerning economic cooperation between Poland and Slovakia were raised. These included: underdeveloped road and rail infrastructure, the problem of lowering groundwater levels, difficulties for Slovak companies in opening bank accounts in Polish banks, the need to adopt a macro-regional strategy for the Carpathian Convention, the development of the Interreg 2022-2027 project and the further development of tourism in the Tatra region.

After a break of several years, the Polish Ministry of Development and Technology and the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic resumed talks on the further development of economic relations between Poland and Slovakia. The meeting of the Working Group on Economic Cooperation was an important step in this process.

The aim of the meeting was to strengthen cooperation between Polish and Slovak partners. On the Polish side, the meeting was attended, among others, by the Rector of the Wyższa Szkoła Biznesu - National Louis Univeristy dr Dariusz Woźniak Prof. WSB-NLU, representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Bratislava and local chambers of commerce such as the Sącz Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Cracow and the Regional Chamber of Commerce in Katowice. Also present were representatives of the Polish-Slovak Chamber of Commerce and the Association of the Euroregion "Tatry".

On the Slovak side, the meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic, the Slovak Embassy in Poland and organisations such as the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency, the Slovak-Polish Chamber of Commerce and the Carpathian Platform.
